After you shower (especially with hot water), the pores in your skin are more open, so any kind of lotion or creme that you put on post-shower is absorbed more and can cause an increase in burning feeling. Not sure how old you are but getting pimples is pretty normal during your teenage years. If you don't want to use cremes, try washing your face 2-3 times a day, making sure not to touch it with oily hands... or I've even heard putting toothpaste on the pimples before bed and washing it off in the morning works. It has the same drying-out agent as a lot of topical cremes. |

Well, that depends on what was it in the "liquid lotion ". If it was high in alcohol content, then that would definitely make your face burn. It's generally a good idea to let your face dry a little while, like five to ten minutes, after you shower before you apply any medication. Your skin absorbs medication much more easily when it's just been washed (because of the increased moisture from the shower/ bath). Some tingling with certain medications can be expected, but it should not burn intensely. You also may be sensitive to benzoyl peroxide, if the lotion had that in it. Most dermatologists recommend against using regular/ basic soap (like Ivory) on your face. It's very drying (which could have caused the burning), and too harsh (and not effective against acne). Most dermatologists recommend a non-soap, more gentle cleanser that contains actual acne-fighting ingredients. You really can't get rid of pimples without creams or other medications or treatments. (Unfortunately, waving a magic wand won't get rid of it.) It won't go away on its on -- this is your skin, not your mother's, and you -- not her -- will have to deal with the scars if your acne is severe/ significant. I hope that you are able to find something that works for you that doesn't burn your skin -- there are many options out there -- whether or not your mother will like them may be a different story. |
